Villa San Michele

Villa San Michele must be one of the most romantic places in the world.  This former monastery, nestled on a hilltop surrounded by trees and terraced gardens, overlooks the city of Florence below.

Dating from the 15th century its facade is attributed to Michelangelo.  To step inside is to experience the ethereal beauty and solitude of a renaissance building that is as much a part of Italy’s culture as the country’s greatest cathedrals and galleries. Here, each visitor is a privileged guest, invited to stroll in the Italian gardens, filled with lemon trees and roses, and savour the superb Tuscan cuisine on the alfresco loggia as if in a private home.

The Villa San Michele has 46 rooms, including 25 suites and junior suites, located in the old monastery building and nestled amid the beautiful gardens, enjoying spectacular views, each with its own unique style and antique furnishings.

The restaurants and bars at Villa San Michele boast some of the most spectacular views in Europe, overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley.  The menu is created using seasonal products from the region when possible and emphasis is placed on the typical Tuscan cuisine of the region. Home made pasta, mushrooms and meat are house specialities.

Florence
Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany.  The city lies on the Arno River and is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance, especially for its art and architecture.  The historic centre of Florence was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1982.

The city is one of Italy’s most atmospheric and pleasant, its striking buildings, formidable galleries and treasure-crammed churches combine to acheive a wonderful ambience of history.  Florence’s elegant appearance: its skyline, all russet rooftops and lofty domes, are all very picturesque. It’s popularity is unsurprising, attracting as it does tourists from across the globe.
